Burgerfi cuts front of house staff wages below minimum wage Recently, the state of Florida has decided to increase our minimum wage from $10/ hr to $11 / hr. I have also come to find out (through the grape vine) that Burgerfi has decided that since the front of house staff technically are able to make tips, they will be making their front of house FULL TIME wage $9 / hr. I decided to investigate on my own and filled out an application for one of these positions. I had stated I was looking to be paid the minimum wage that Florida offers. (I’m already employed full time) I was told that since I would hypothetically be making tips, I would start at …. $9 / hr. Allow me to begin by stating that in a good service scenario in which you work for tips, it is TOTALLY LEGAL pay employees in this way. HOWEVER, Given Burgerfis status as a fast food joint, it is impossible that the tip jar at the hostess counter will ever be enough to make up for the staffs lost wages, and the company did this on purpose to save money. Everyone has seen the tip jars at a fast food restaurant. I do my best to put a little in there for the workers when I dine at such establishments, But compared to the culture of gratuity and the tips that waiters and waitresses make at traditional style dining establishes, the host and hostesses gratuities at these establishments are far lower. These tips are then split amongst the entire staff, if management works front of house this will include them. I remember working at Tijuana flats on a convo de mayo and having 50 dollars in the tip jar at the end of the night to split amongst 7 people. Burgerfi had to of realized this before they made such an irresponsible decision and if you are currently employed there I suggest you leave fast, because they are taking advantage of you
