They can be intimidating at first, but once you learn the basics it's so much faster and more efficient than bumping around a typical GUI with a mouse.
to be honest they did for me as well at first but one you get started and bork your install and have to start over. one you type and understand the commands a couple of times it gets easier. foir instance cd = change directory, sudo = super user do, su = super user and so on. if you want i can post a cheat sheat lord knows ive used it several times lol
