We spend so much time watching the scoreboard: price charts, follower counts, upvote numbers. It’s easy to think the game is won in those moments of public validation. But anyone who has actually played a sport knows the result is just the receipt. The work happened in the empty gym when nobody was watching.

Crypto feels exactly like this right now.

The market rewards visibility. Loud takes, viral threads, instant alpha. But sustainable building doesn’t look like that. It looks like shipping updates when engagement is flat. It looks like holding through weeks where the chart goes nowhere. It looks like showing up to the same protocol day after day while the crowd chases the next shiny narrative.

I’ve been accumulating quietly during these sideways weeks. Not because I’m predicting a pump tomorrow, but because I trust the process over the noise. The tourists are here for the green candles. They leave the moment the momentum stalls. The builders stay because the mission outlasts the market cycle.

This isn’t about suffering in silence or romanticizing the struggle. It’s about recognizing that consistency compounds in ways hype never can. A player who shows up to every practice gets better whether the coach notices or not. A builder who ships code every week creates value whether the token price reflects it yet or not.

The highlight reel gets the applause. The grind gets the championship.

I know which one I’m investing my energy in. And it’s not the one that depends on someone else’s attention to feel real. 🐝🏋️

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐖𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐞𝐛𝟑 | 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬 - 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏

The internet reduced distance in ways that would have been difficult to imagine just a few decades ago.

We can now work with people we’ve never met in person, learn from someone on another continent, discover cultures outside our own far more easily, publish without first asking an institution for permission, or find communities we might never have found around us.

But as we came to rely on these technologies more, access and connection could also become dependence.

Convenience can lead us to give up more control than we realize. Systems that bring people together can also limit what people see or what they are able to do, while concentrating enormous influence in a handful of companies.

What becomes normal online still comes down to human choices — including what we are willing to trade for convenience and what we are not.

You don’t need to understand how all of this works technically to be affected by it. We already rely on digital systems for communication, work, payments, storing memories, and a growing part of our creative lives.

When that infrastructure changes, our lives change with it.

𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬 — 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝟏 starts further back than SourceLess itself.

This first chapter looks at the technological path that made projects like it possible: from the early Web, through the platform era, to decentralization and digital ownership in Web3.
