This is a photo I took in Svalbard when I lived there while studying to be an arctic nature guide. We were on an 8-day excursion in the middle of nowhere and this bear focused all its attention on us the entire trip. Paid us many visits. She had her cubs with her at some points too. Flare guns were enough to scare her off each time.
The first time she visited us, I was on polar bear watch at 3 am and caught her swimming towards our camp through binoculars. Had to yell for everyone to wake up. We are actually not supposed to ever be near water in Svalbard as it's easy access for polar bears to attack but this program did it on purpose to give real life experience to nature guides. #animals
