Exam Stress and Resilience : A Grandparent's Perspective

Yesterday, my grandson, Chandler and the rest of the pupils faced a challenging situation during their Geography Exam. Halfway through the exam they were informed that there was 'something wrong" with the English Geography paper. They were asked to hand in the incorrect paper and wait for a reprint, which would take an hour and a half as they had to wait for the Afrikaans pupils to finish their paper. Bearing in mind these pupils had to be there an hour before the time, start at 2pm and finish by 4:30pm

As the delay stretched on, stress began to mount, and some students had to be moved to different rooms after experiencing mental breakdowns. Despite the frustration and uncertainty, my grandson opted to take the Afrikaans Geography paper and write it in English. Instead of waiting for the Reprinted English paper.

I've been waiting for him since 4:00pm (not knowing what is going on) he eventually showed up at 5:00pm, while the rest of the children only started their English Geography Paper at that time.

This wasn't how he wanted to end his final exam, but things happen that are beyond our control. This is a reminder that even when things don't go as planned, resilience and finding moments of calm are so important.
I just hope that the effort he put in reflects well in his results. I'm proud of him for pushing through and staying strong despite everything.

I also want to take a moment to thank all of you for your prayers and well wishes during his exam period.

Chandler is a genius boy, he handles stress well, and because he speaks both languages, he was able to submit his paper.
Congratulations Chandler!

It sounds like your grandson and his classmates went through an incredibly stressful situation, but it's truly admirable how he handled it with such resilience.

Despite the challenges and confusion, his decision to continue and adapt by taking the Afrikaans paper in English is a testament to his strength and determination.

Sometimes, life throws unexpected obstacles, but it's our response that shapes the outcome. I'm sure his efforts will be reflected in his results, and your pride in him is well-earned. Thanks for sharing this heartfelt experience, and best wishes for Chandler’s exam results!
