What’s a “fancy” meal that’s shockingly inexpensive to make?
We all know that a three dollar package of pasta can feed an army, but what’s your favorite “fancy“ meal that presents and tastes like its much more expensive than it actually is?
I have two:
Seared ahi tuna ($10/lb) with charred brocolli ($3/lb), sticky rice ($3/lb), and green onion ($1/bundle). Comes out to about $7-$8 a person, but feels like fine dining.
Sauteed shrimp ($9/lb) with black beans ($1/can), white rice ($2/lb), and quick pickled red cabbage slaw ($2/package). About the same price per person as above. The pickled cabbage brings some really great acidity and crunch to an already great meal. Bonus points if you want to make a pineapple ($5 whole) and jalepeno ($.25/each) salsa as well. #finance
