Let’s listen to Vltava from Smetana’s “Má vlast”!
✨Who is Smetana? Bedřich Smetana (March 2, 1824 - May 12, 1884) was a Czech composer. He is known as the "Father of Czech National Music".
✨Smetana was born in Litomysl, Czech Republic, and studied music in Prague and Gothenburg. He composed operas, symphonies, symphonic poems, piano music and chamber music throughout his life. Among his most famous works are the opera "The Betrayed Bride" and the symphonic poem "My Country."
Smetana's music is known for its rich national color and strong patriotic spirit, and is widely loved in the Czech Republic and around the world. Unfortunately, his health gradually deteriorated, and he finally died in the clinic on May 12, 1884. His remains were buried in Prague's Wischede Cemetery. This day also became the opening day of the [Prague Spring Music Festival]. The opening piece was his symphonic poem "My Motherland", and this famous Vltava was the second piece of it.
It is translated as Vltava River (Czech: Vltava), also called Moldau River (German: Moldau, sometimes mistranslated as Moldau River). The latter two translations are more common in Taiwan. This river is the longest river in the Czech Republic. It originates from the Bohemian Forest, flows from south to north through South Bohemia, Central Bohemia and the capital Prague, and flows into the Elbe River at Melnik.
By the way, the music is below. The version I chose is a live video of Baren Boyne, a pianist and conductor, conducting the Vienna Philharmonic in a performance at the Musicians Association Hall. This hall is also the venue for the Vienna New Year Concert every year. It is very Nice to hear. 有翻譯為伏爾塔瓦河（捷克語：Vltava），也叫做莫爾道河（德語：Moldau，有時也被誤譯為莫爾島河），台灣比較常見的是後面兩種翻譯說法，而這條河是捷克最長的河流。發源於波希米亞森林，自南向北流經南波希米亞州、中波希米亞州和首都布拉格，在梅爾尼克注入易北河。
