and I get to work close with him as he leads some of our life skills classes and supports our program though hiring and sponsoring some of our men. Here's a little bit about him:
“At All Costs” Mike Carter grew up in a Brooklyn neighborhood dominated by the power and influence of the real-life men that inspired movies like Goodfellas. Then, he began his career during the era of drug-fueled excess on Wall St - it wasn’t long before his life began to spiral out of control. Fast-forward to: the FBI has a warrant out for his arrest, he’s addicted to heroin, and he runs to Seattle, “determined to die.” And yet, here is he today - a sober, successful, and well-respected chef and GM of multiple Seattle-based eateries, who dedicates his time to helping support and employ men in recovery. How did he get here? Check out this video for a glimpse into his remarkable life story. #RecoveryIsPossible
. I am dealing with something like his story just without the success part (yet). I tell my family I have been clean for around 5 years but it really is 3. I was doing pretty much everything he was doing just making my money in a different manner. I shot heroin for a little over 10 years and witnessed things you only see in movies. The pandemic was actually the thing that got me sober and opened my eyes and showed me how selfish I was being. I also realized something big was happening and I did not want to die but instead take this as a opportunity to maybe give my kids (and my wife) the life they deserve. This really just made my hope explode for the future. I appreciate you sharing this and maybe one day I will have something to show the world that recovery and success are possible no matter who you are or what you have been through.
