Why do you eat things that you know will make you sick?
This is something I’ve wondered about for a really long time.
And I’m not at all judging!! I’m just really curious what the motivation is behind it.
It seems like so many people with dietary intolerances continue to eat the things they’re intolerant of, even when their symptoms are quite severe.
It’s always felt weird to me because there’s so many other options. I have a hard time understanding why someone would choose something that makes them feel sick when there are other equally tasty foods that wouldn’t make them sick.
Or even have a modified version of the food (dairy free ice cream, etc.). Which I know aren’t always as good lol, but in my mind an alternative would be better than puking for hours.
I have really severe GI issues, but for me it’s all food (some things worse than others). Because all food made me sick there was no way for me to avoid it lol.
So from my perspective it’s just confusing why you’d inflict it on yourself when you have a choice otherwise.
But again, no judgement, just genuinely curious. I can’t eat or drink at all anymore and one of the things I miss the most is cheese. So I can sympathize with anyone else who also can’t have it 😅
I can understand the enjoyment of food being worth some suffering occasionally when the symptoms are relatively “minor”.
I would periodically eat foods that hurt me more because I was craving them. Sometimes it is just worth it.
But I’ve met people with severe symptoms. Profuse/excessive vomiting, diarrhea to the point of soiling themselves, etc. who still eat the things that make them sick on a very frequent basis and just can’t wrap my head around how they have that degree of determination 😅 #conversation source
