Sant Jordi Day, or Day of Giving Books and Roses, is celebrated on April 23 in Catalonia, Spain and some other regions. Combine the celebration of International Book Day with the legend of Saint George and the dragon. The tradition of giving books and roses comes from the legend where Saint George gives a rose to a princess after killing a dragon. It is celebrated with streets full of bookstores and flower stalls, cultural events and as a day to defend the Catalan language.
