Scott Joplin - Elite Syncopations - 1903
" Elite Syncopations " is a 1902 ragtime piano composition by American composer Scott Joplin , originally published in 1903 by John Stark & Son … In 1974, the British Royal Ballet , under director Kenneth MacMillan , created the ballet Elite Syncopations based on tunes by Joplin and other composers of the era.
Considered to be the “King of Ragtime,” Joplin spent most of his life in the American south, between Missouri and New Orleans. Joplin’s natural skills and a combination of gospel hymns, spirituals, dance music, classical music and work songs contributed significantly to a new style called “Ragtime,” giving America a genuine native music. Performed by Phillip Dyson.
