Why do people assume Chess is easy?

I’ve heard this discourse going around online that Chess is an easy game to master if you just put in enough time. I’ve heard people say things like “dude I could be a Grandmaster if I just dedicate more time to the game” like yeah OK buddy sure you can. I don’t think most people understand just how rare it is to be a Grandmaster and Yet so many people are convinced that it will be a walk in the park for some reason. That’s like saying I could be in the NBA or play in the champions league if I just spend more time in the gym. It’s completely delusional! I believe only like 0.0000000001% of all chess reach will ever reach that level. Let alone becoming world champion. I find it disrespectful as well because you’re diminishing their achievements on something that is extremely hard to do.

Why do you guys think this is? Is it simply people being delusional? (Dunning–Kruger effect) or are most people just incredibly naive about how complicated the game is once you start playing at the highest level?
