I have put in about $1,800 worth of work since August, and my boss put me on payroll this week finally but I never got paid. I texted him asking if I should wait for tomorrow, because maybe it's late, and he never answered me.
Questions:
1. I was told that before I report him, I have to write a letter to him demanding payment. I live in Minnesota, is this correct?
2. I don't want to threaten him, but do I say to him in the letter? "hey, pay me, or I'm going to report you?" Or " not paying me for 2 months is very illegal, please pay me immediately"?
3. I've heard conflicting things about who to contact. Is it the BBB or The Minnesota department of Labor?
4. How long does this process usually take?
5. I'm a little nervous. Part of me wants to give him the benefit of the doubt and give him one more week or even say something like " hey, this should be a priority because it's super illegal to not pay your employee this long" -- I just don't want the drama if he ends up paying me later this week. 😫
6. Any other advice? It would be super helpful. Thank you. source
