Frankenstein - referenced literature and relation to the characters

Hello. I just read Frankenstein by Mary Shelley for the first time (loved it). However, there are multiple other works referenced in the story that I am not familiar with that I feel I may be missing out on when it comes to the relation to the story or the characters. What do you guys think is the reason Shelley chose these specific books to be held in such high regard by Victor and his creature? Do you think that one is missing out on a whole other level of understanding this story if they haven't read them?

Victor Frankenstein's reads:

\- Cornelius Agrippa

\- Paracelsus

\- Albertus Magnus

Frankenstein's monster's reads:

\- Plutarch's Lives

\- Sorrows of Werter

\- Paradise Lost
