My first chess tournament experience

It was a year ago when I participated in my first chess tournament, and it did not go well.

In the first game, my opponent was a 1500 fide rated! (I was only 1600 rapid elo on chess.com ) And absolutely destroyed me. Since it was my first tournament I was devastated and I lost faith in myself after that one single game. But one thing I noticed is the ways he would try to distract me like playing with the rook, acting bored (using his hand to support his head) and covering his face at random moments which kind of distracted me. I know it is tournament legal to do that but whatever.

But in my second game, I was paired against a 700 elo. And for some reason he decided to talk to me, constantly offering draws. I was a good sport about it because I didn't really care that much but oh boy, I was absolutely crushing him until I blundered back rank mate! And then I watched him laugh and run to his parents in absolute joy. Honestly looking back I should have just called the arbiter but he was so young and I just felt bad for him.

After those two games, I just gave up. I played just for fun knowing that I can't win the tournament anymore (it was a 6 round tournament rapid)

Then I went on to win only 3 games, but it's probably because I lost twice leading to them constantly putting me in the lower elo section.

I am now 2000 elo in rapid and looking back I could have beat them but I was way too nervous and losing those 2 games just crushed me.
