Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. had a blunt response after a Chinese official handed him a handwritten note disputing the 2016 South China Sea arbitration ruling while he was speaking at a defense summit in Seoul.
Teodoro read portions of the note aloud during the Seoul Defense Dialogue on Tuesday, September 8, including China’s position that the arbitral award was “illegal, null and void” and had no binding force.
