Just figured I'd give my impression from an outsider that hears mostly horrible things about miami haha. I usually travel alot to random places and have fun biking around. I get off plane in MIA then was shocked how easy it was to get metro rail. Got off brickell and was kinda lost and asked randoms how to get to destination and they were pretty friendly. Airbnb entering was a bitch and disaster but thats expected tbh some landlord just suck but it happens. I get settled then get into friendly convo with doormen and valet. I noticed most of them don't know much english and felt nice finally taking out my spanish skills. I helped some ppl translate since they couldnt communicate that well about parking issues. Managed to get in contact with someone to buy a bike up in Miami Shores. The dude lets me into his apartment and shows me the bike and suddenly meet his family lmao. My spanish again came in clutch and we were just having conversations about life. I got the bike then he told me how to get back home. The bike ride begins....
I bike south to 79th street and get stopped by a homeless dude. I start speaking spanish and he just leaves me lol SPANISH NEVER CAME SO CLUTCH SO MANY TIMES IN A DAY. I go east to 79th and head to miami beach. I use the bike lane but holy god some cars dont give a fuck. I bike alot in Chicago and NY but always felt safe with traffic and bike lanes. Here some ppl think its gran turismo and zoom while flexing the engine. I get lost a couple times and ask randoms and there were pretty friendly. It's hard to judge entirely but from short interactions they were very helpful telling me street names and where to go. I eventually get to venetian causeway and had alot of fun biking the entirety. I manage to get back to downtown miami and get to airbnb in brickell.
Short synopsis it was pretty dope, lots to explore but for today i had fun and surprised how helpful spanish is. Im mexican and guatemalan but look GRINGO af lol ppl were alot nicer and i spoke with a couple 711 workers about life and how they manage to live. the common theme is have very good job or work 2 jobs. miami felt like santo domingo in the DR, i was shocked how similar everything was so nothing was too crazy or outstanding. Look forward to spending some time here and enjoying everything, thanks for my horrible TED talk. Any suggestions hmu
