🌧️ Hurricane Polo was a Category 5 storm off southwestern Mexico on 24 September, with the National Hurricane Center reporting 160 mph (260 km/h) sustained winds. Its outer rainbands brought heavy rain and strong waves to the Pacific coast.

The storm's eye and strongest winds were forecast to remain offshore, but forecasters warned that rain could cause life-threatening flooding and landslides. Residents in Playa Azul, Michoacán, placed sandbags against waves.

A Reuters Connect item sourced to Anadolu Agency said 2 to 4 inches (51 to 102 mm) of rain were forecast for coastal Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco. The NHC said tropical-storm-force winds were likely occurring along parts of the southwestern coast. 🌊

Polo was forecast to continue northwest, passing near the Revillagigedo Islands before moving closer to the Baja California Peninsula. The hurricane is separate from Tropical Storm Nolo, which was prompting preparations in Hawaii.
