I really enjoy parent-child bonding movies, where trust is questioned, lost and then restored many fold over. I always root for the down-trodden underdog. One of the pure-blood films in this genre is Over the Top, where Sylvester Stallone is an estranged dad, who, despite being ridiculed and hounded by his ex-wife's wealthy father, powers through the odds to reach out and earn the trust and respect of his young son.

Films in the same vein like The Last Boy Scout, The Champ, Blind Fury and Real Steel are other prime examples. Most of these pictures were made back in the day, when talent in acting still mattered and Hollywood was not yet a politically-addled morass as it has become of late.
