Why is Change so difficult?

For many, altering their lives proves to be a daunting endeavor, often awaiting external catalysts, typically occurring in the form of catabolic moments such as loss or trauma. However, change can occur without such dramatic events by understanding the reasons behind our resistance to change. If we subscribe to the idea that our thoughts shape our reality, then the staggering realization that we entertain between 60,000 and 70,000 daily thoughts, with roughly 90% being repetitive from the day before, underscores the challenge of breaking free from stagnant patterns.

Our conscious mind, which champions creativity and positive thinking, represents just a fraction—5%—of our total mental capacity, with the remaining 95% residing in the unconscious mind, orchestrating the habits and programs that perpetuate cycles without our conscious awareness. Genuine change demands mindfulness and presence to unearth these unconscious patterns and habits, followed by consistent efforts to forge new paths.

The key lies in cultivating new thoughts, which breed fresh emotions, ultimately propelling us to take different actions. By embracing this cycle of thought, emotion, and action, we pave the way for meaningful transformation without waiting for external upheavals to spur us into motion.
