Hunting rifle to leave for generations. Little bit of…

Hunting rifle to leave for generations.

Little bit of context: my wife and I have been hunting deer for 10 years. We own savage hunter in 30.06 and a tikka t3x compact in 308. I chose those caliber for the usual reason of affordability and being able to kill also a moose eventually.
My son is turning 12 this year and I though of buying him a riffle of his own. I would like to be able to keep this rifle for generations. The only request is to have a wooden stock. Stainless barrel is a plus.
My original though on the caliber was a 243 to have less recoil than our two actual rifles. This rifle would be seen as an introductory rifle for younger generation.
If we ever manage to get into moose hunting, we have our two other rifle plus I have access to a 7win mag.

So the question is, with a budget of 1500$ just for the riffle, which model comes to mind?
What do you think about the 243 choice?

Cheers.
