To start with, I'm the exact demographic for the aesthetic of this game. I relate to it on a scary level. So I was pretty excited to get it that I paid full price for it which I almost never do for board games. I just had to get it and Pergola cause they both looked amazing.
When I played them with my usual group which is basically my sisters and sister in law they quickly got into Pergola but just didn't click with APFAMB. I tried nudging them in the right direction and explaining how they should play but it was an unfamiliar genre to them and they just... played it wrong? I'm not sure how else to explain it. They stayed at the apartment all the time. They got to 20 social battery points and then continued to do stuff around the apartment without getting extra points. When I suggested they go out they'd be like... why? In my turn I did all sorts of things outside but they didn't even seem to be paying attention as I explained what I was doing. And they also complained that the game was "way too long" even as I explained that the only way to advance the game was to go outside!
Anyway, now they don't want to play it again cause it's too long and didn't make sense or whatever. Did anyone encounter this. How should I get them to give it another chance and play the game right? I agree that the game has some flaws in its design but is it thay bad? We only played it like one and a half time so I'm not sure. Should I jusy stick to playing it solo? Cause I do really enjoy the game especially for the aesthetic like I said before. Oh and the book pieces are amazing. #games source
