Yesterday, in Mindanao, around 7:30 AM, a devastating 7.8 Magnitude Earthquake hit General Santos.
It was also the first day of the opening of school for 2026. I have seen several videos of the quake and I felt like watching scenes from a disaster movie. In one video, a building collapsed.
A cousin who lives in Davao City sent me a video while he was doing his morning swim training. The quake created waves inside the pool, water spilling over!
In this particular video, students of a public school are on the ground. Fortunately, the quake occurred during the flag-raising ceremony and had not yet entered their classrooms. I watched this particular video several times and in slow-motion to check if someone was hurt when that makeshift structure collapsed. I think everyone got out of the way safely.
But this is a very traumatic experience for everyone.
I pray for the safety of the everyone in the affected areas.
