Options for saving money while picking up lunch to-go
OK, lunch delivery, even lunch pickup, is not necessarily frugal. But after seeing my wife and her coworker spend $42 for lunch for two via Uber Eats (ow) while I'm eating a sandwich I made myself at home, I've started offering to bring them lunch, if we can find a cheap-ish place to pick it up from, aiming for $20 or less for lunch for two.
I am purposely excluding me making them lunch; they're too fussy.
Today I was able to bring them Potbelly, two "skinny" sandwiches for $7 each, lunch for two for $16 after tax. I also stopped at Dollar Tree and got them a big-ish bag of chips for $1.25.
Next time, I'm thinking Sushi from the big grocery store, there are a bunch of choices between $5-10. I just got a spicy cali roll for myself for $7 (my own lunch splurge today). Could be yet another lunch for two under $20.
I know I'm not really counting my time and effort (and gas and car) in the math, but it gives me something to do on a day when my wife is working and I am not.
Anybody else have any other tips for places to pick food up from as cheaply as possible? (Location is Chicago, if that matters.)
Fast food options I'm aware of already: $6 meal deal from Dunkin (breakfast sandwich, hash brown tots, coffee), and McDonald's $6 meal deal (McChicken, 4 nugs, fries, soda). They turn their nose up at the McDonald's deal but I'm going to put Dunkin in the mix. #finance source
