Judit Polgár does not accept the nomination to become President of Hungary
Judit Polgár posted the following statement on her facebook page:
I consider the invitation to serve as President of the Republic a singular honor, and I am deeply grateful for it. I highly appreciate the Prime Minister’s gesture in asking a candidate who is independent and stands above party politics—despite his party’s significant parliamentary weight—to assume the presidency.
However, as I do not feel I possess the strength to shoulder the historic responsibility of uniting a divided nation, I am unable to accept the invitation. I will support a new, independent, and respected President of the Republic in every way possible as they work to achieve these goals. Judit Polgár
