American Leather Sofa Bed 18 Years Old - Still Worth It?
Hi, Group! I had been looking for a second hand American Leather sofa bed for a while now. One came up for sale that looked in excellent condition. I inquired about how much it was used as a bed, and told that it was only seldom used as a sofa or bed, smoke and pet free home. I think that is accurate. The only thing we were told as a negative was that the pull-out mechanism gets a little stuck half way through, but you just need to finesse it a bit and it works no problem. I went ahead and bought it - and we're about to use it for the first time for our guests. As we were vacuuming it post-move we saw the tag and that it was manufactured in 2009! I'm not sure if the sellers were aware of how old it was (it was her stepdad's, in his guest room), but I do feel less great about the sale. We got it for a good price, but not nothing.
How are American Leather sofas post 18 years? The fact that it was rarely used I'm sure helps, but what else do I need to look at to check on how it's aging? I'm wondering if I can contact an American Leather distributer near me and see if they have any advice. I know we can replace the mattresses - what about having someone come to give it a 'tune up'?
Any advice, or positive words that make me feel better about buying an 18 year old sofa would be much appreciated.
