🌊 Rescue operations continued Friday after the Nepal-Tibet flood disaster, which killed at least 543 people—538 reported in Nepal and five in Tibet—while more than 1,500 people remained missing.
The flooding began after ice and rock collapsed into a Himalayan river near the Nepal-China border, sending water, mud and debris through valleys and damaging homes, roads, bridges and power infrastructure.
A barrier lake that formed upstream became the immediate concern. Its overflow briefly disrupted rescue work, as authorities warned that a failure could send another flood downstream toward the hard-hit border corridor. ⚠️
