Are there any grounded short stories that follow Campbell's Hero's Journey structure?

I'm planning a high school English unit where we investigate a theme or idea across a number of texts. I want to look at Joseph Campbell's monomyth to connect students with the idea of stories being inate, ancient, and powerful cultural artefacts.

I am planning on looking at Miyazaki's Spirited Away and Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea, but I want to include something more grounded to quash the idea that this structure is only applicable in fantastical stories.

The unit will require the student study 4 texts, 3 that are selected by me, and one they choose themselves.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

For those unfamiliar, the steps are given different names, but can often follow the rough formula of...

- Call to adventure
- Refusal of the call
- Meeting the mentor
- Crossing the threshold
- Tests, allies, and enemies
- The approach
- The ordeal
- The reward
- The road back
- The resurrection
- The return
- The freedom to live
