👑 King Haakon VIII took the oath of allegiance before Norway’s parliament on 1 September, days after succeeding his father, King Harald V, who died on 28 August.
The oath is required by Article 9 of Norway’s 1814 Constitution. It is a formal promise to govern according to the Constitution and laws, rather than the act that makes the heir king.
Haakon’s daughter, Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra, attended the ceremony. Government guidance says she is the first second-in-line adult in a recent Norwegian succession and is expected to give the separate written oath required for an adult heir. 📜
