Though still far ahead, there are already signals that an El Niño may develop in the tropical Pacific in the latter part of 2026. El Niño often bring hotter and drier than normal weather conditions in the Philippines.
The current La Niña conditions over the tropical Pacific is expected to wane down in the next three months and will be an ENSO-neutral state through the middle of 2026.
Based on the latest estimates from the US National Weather Service, an El Niño may develop as early as the 3rd quarter of 2026, just in time for the rainy season in the Philippines.
