The Stars Are Disappearing.
Six months ago, the team i was assigned to found a very peculiar phenomena. The craziest part about this is, other observatories around the world had begun to notice it too.
No one said a word about it.
For some strange, ungodly reason- the most distant stars and galaxies- started to stretch, wriggle and double around some sort of thing. At first, the usual culprits were suspected. The mass of planets or maybe an invisible black hole that had passed by them.
But the most confusing part was that after these galaxies began showing this strange, mysterious phenomena, it would just vanish. it's light would be completely blocked and as much as we tried we could not get it back. Numerous times, we tried many methods, but after finding the trace of even one star's dissapearance proved tedious, We dropped the plan.
Almost like a person standing infront of a torch.
Simply because we did not have the time and resources to investigate them. If this phenomena was isolated to just one strange, weird, out of line galaxy or star - it would have been fine. We could actually research and find what on earth happened to them.
But it wasn't just one galaxy, it was many. And its wasn't ten stars, but millions of them.
Every second, in every direction the farthest stars ever discovered were vanishing in the fraction of a second, as our telescope strained with all it's might on focusing on the last final remnants of light emanated from huge hydrogen giants that gave out possibly billions of years ago.
We weren't slow to discover that this was a very, very huge threat. This had begun happening over billions of years ago. Now, there may be some people here who do not know about the science behind this, and i will brief you on this without boring you, i assure you i will try as hard as i can.
Light takes time to travel. If the light from a celestial object takes 1 year to reach our telescopes, we are seeing the object as it was 1 year ago. Since we are looking at things billions of light years away, We were witnessing the vanishing of stars that had occured billions of years ago.
At first, we had thought the universe was expanding even faster than it is now. When the universe expands, galaxies and stars reach an eventual threshold where the light simply do not reach us anymore. But that would not explain the quiet distortion that was occuring to stars around us.
God knows how closer this is now.
Due to the terrifying implications and impact this had had on us and observatories all around the world, the government had given us a large amount of money extra per month and high administrative positions and funding to keep our mouth shut and work quietly. We did so as well.
For the last 10 years, telescopes worked tirelessly, glancing around the night sky, working tirelessly to produce a new diagram of the observable universe as we know it.
In order to understand what the actual fuck was going on, we were assigned to produce a cosmic microwave background emission diagram.
Two years went on. Noise was filtered, expunged and looked at again. As the final result was produced, we were shocked at what we had found.
When we got the message that fateful day two weeks ago, my hands trembled.
A huge blue formation had taken almost the entirety of the image.
This meant this anomaly was colossal, cold
and.. I cant get the words. Sweat trickled down the side of my forehead as realization seeped into my being.
It was also shaped tangibly. As in, it looked like a cohesive shape. Like almost a crab and a spider conjoined together, the blue spot formation was very easy to make out. Almost like..it was an organism. It could just be pareidolia, but i wouldn't see the end of it. It has to be. It just- has to be. Maybe i'm making things up.
I haven't sleeped properly for the past 5 years, My health is declining rapidly, and frankly, i don't care.
Why should I?
Yesterday, ULAS J0015+01, the farthest star in our milky way, was reported by my team member to undergo the same pattern of distortion and eventual disappearance.
It's getting nearer.
God help us.
