I lowkey regret buying a prebuilt. Here’s why.
TL;DR build your own from scratch unless you know what you’re in for.
So a while ago I bought a CyberPowerPC setup off a dude on OfferUp for $300. Monitor, speakers, PC, everything. I was a Mac user at the time so I didn’t really know much about PCs. I didn’t know an RX 570 and a Ryzen 3 would not meet my gaming needs (I used to play on High 1080p using a Mac), so I wanted to upgrade the parts little by little. It started with the RAM, then the GPU, then the mobo, and so on… At first, everything was working fine. I was able to add more RAM and a new GPU. Eventually I ran into so many little issues. I don’t feel like listing all of them, so I’ll mention that the CyberPowerPC case was proprietary, nothing in the case would connect to the motherboard; the glass side panel of the case shattered leaving chunks everywhere; the cables were a jumbled mess in knots. I have spent so much money and time upgrading the old one that I didn’t even want to finish building the computer. I’m so tired of spending money here and there just to make thinks work. I’ve spent almost $1000 for a decent computer but I could have saved so much money if I did it all myself from the get-go. Rebuilding was literal hell, I would have been much better off building from the start. I think prebuilt computers are good ideas for beginners, those who aren’t going to upgrade for a while, or those who enjoy the added benefits of customer service. I’m not dissent prebuilt computers, but I am saying that you should consider the pros and cons before you proceed. I would have saved myself so much time, money, and stress if I built it from scratch. On the contrary, I feel like I’ve learned a lesson as well as the skills needed to build another computer. What are your thoughts?
