‘I think I really played well’ — Alex Eala on her semifinal win and reaching her first WTA 500 final at the Mubadala DC Open
Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala marched to the finals of the Mubadala DC Open after an impressive 6-4, 6-2 win over Naomi Osaka, early Sunday (Manila time).
Eala pulled off the stunner over the four-time Grand Slam champion to advance to her first final at the WTA 500 level.
She is set to play top-seeded Jessica Pegula, who defeated Russia's Diana Shnaider 7-5, 6-4 in their own semifinal showdown earlier in the day.
Pegula had beaten Eala when they played in the Miami Open last year, in what was the Filipina's breakout tournament.
