I'm building out my van and seriously considering a MaxxFan Deluxe. But the more I think about it, the more I wonder if these things are actually doing their job properly.
During the day the van hits 35C/95°F inside. Fine. But at night the fan is too loud to sleep next to. In the morning I still wake up with condensation. And the question I can't answer: when do you actually turn it on?
Here's the problem I keep coming back to. The MaxxFan thermostat reads inside temperature only. It has no idea what's happening outside. So it literally cannot know whether ventilating makes sense or not. If it's warmer and more humid outside than inside you're just pulling in the wrong air and making things worse.
Proper ventilation logic needs two sensors, inside and outside. Compare temperature and dew point. Only run the fan when outside air is actually cooler and drier than inside. Adjust speed proportionally to the difference.
This seems so obvious. Why does no fan do this?
How are you all actually dealing with this? Timer? Manual judgment? Just accepting condensation as part of van life? #lifestyle source
