Van Alexander - Night and Day - 1938
" Night and Day " is a popular song by Cole Porter , written for the 1932 musical Gay Divorce . It is perhaps Porter's most popular contribution to the Great American Songbook and has been recorded by dozens of musicians. NPR says "within three months of the show's opening, more than 30 artists had recorded the song."
Having established his reputation as an arranger, Alexander formed his own orchestra in 1938 and recorded this Cole Porter standard at the band’s first commercial session.
Transferred from 78rpm Bluebird B-10073 - Night and Day (Porter) by Van Alexander & his Orchestra, recorded in NYC November 3, 1938.
