I just wrapped up this drama right after finishing The Mystic Nine . I went into it hoping for more of the original Mystic Nine family cast but even though I didn't get that, I actually loved the completely different flavor it brought to the table. It’s a quick 10-episode ride, so the action scenes were a bit few and far between but it definitely did its job of getting me hyped for the next season. What’s great about this show is that no matter how spooky or intense things get down in the cave, it always finds a way to crack me up.

At its core, the story follows young master Wu Xie—grandson of the Mystic Nine's Fifth Master, Wu Laogou. This is his very first tomb expedition but unlike traditional grave robbers, he’s just an innocent guy who genuinely wants to protect these cultural relics from the wrong hands. He has such a kind heart and cares so much about people, which I saw clearly in how protective he was toward A'ning. That’s why the finale cut so deep. It was incredibly sad to watch him get betrayed by Chastity Chen, someone he genuinely trusted.

But on the bright side, I am so down to see what adventures lie ahead for the group. Zhang Qiling is such a mysterious, badass protector who always spawns out of nowhere right when Wu Xie needs him. Mix that with Fatty Wang's chaotic energy and their dynamic is easily the best part of the show. I’m definitely continuing the franchise to see what these young masters can really do and if they will behave in the same way or match the vibe of the legendary old masters from the Mystic Nine.

If there's one major lesson I can take away from Wu Xie’s journey, it's that down in the tombs, the monsters aren't the only dangerous things—the people are, too. It shows that not everyone shares your map of loyalty and people with hidden agenda will often exploit your kindness. But the real takeaway isn't that I should become cold or ruthless. It's that while I need to learn to set better boundaries and guard my heart, I shouldn't let a bad experience ruin my capacity to care. True strength is getting burned by a betrayal, surviving it and still choosing to be a person of integrity.
