I'm frustrated at being forced to read One Hundred Years of Solitude
I love reading. But from what I’ve read by Gabriel García Márquez (only Chronicle of a Death Foretold), I know I don’t like his writing style. It’s almost never the case that I get bored with a book, but I could barely finish that one. And now I have to read one that’s more than twice as long.
I didn’t like his themes, I didn’t like his characters, I don’t like the way he tells the story. I’m not saying he’s a bad author, he’s literally a Nobel Prize winner, and I respect his contribution to literature, but I don’t think his work is for me.
And I know that being forced to read One Hundred Years of Solitude is going to block my mind and I won’t want to read it. I’d rather be reading anything else; i'd rather read Don Quijote, and that says it all. I loved some of the chapters of Don Quijote that I read; I love the way it’s narrated. It sparks imagination. I do like that sort of literature, and I’m frustrated because I don’t want to read One Hundred Years of Solitude.
And the worst thing is that I have to sacrifice my reading time on these school books instead of something I actually enjoy; I’m so eager to read No Longer Human, any Camus book, Kafka’s Letters to His Father, any story by Cortazar, that’s why I feel so frustrated at having to read something I don’t like.
