I have so many photos and want to get rid of most of them.
Over the years I've taken tens of 1000s of images (mainly digital) and been backing them up etc. I've now amassed around 200gb+ of images. This is with editing out all the duplicates and images I don't want. From photos of my family to abstracts, black and whites, hobbies that are quite photogenic, the list goes on. I used to have them all on Google Photos until there was a problem and confusion over how my storage space I actually had with them. So after having another clear out I downloaded them all onto an external SSD drive. And that's where they live now. I don't look at most of them much at all and it all feels like a bit of a waste. I'm getting into Minimalism with The Miniimalists who have a prescription for getting rid of photos but they don't address my issues which is that I just can't bring myself to do it. And if feels like i would be arbitrarily getting rid of images rather than using some formula for whether I need/want the images of not. I was considering getting rid of everything apart from those of my family and dog (because she is so sweet and is sleeping in her basket in my office right now) but that feels extreme. Why don't I just leave them on the HD and forget about them I hear you ask? Well I continue to take more photos and I need some kind of system and I find lugging 200gb+ around year after year a lot to upload to various backup platforms. It all just feels like a big hassle and being into minimalism, I find even digital clutter a weight on my mind even though it physically takes up no more than the size of a pack of cards. Does anybody have ideas, philosophies, strategies and solutions for this? #hobby source
