Question about the racing rules
**I am not trying to start a Lewis vs Max debate here. Just genuinely wondering why this was under investigation.**
In the Madrid first lap we saw Max cutting the first corner, and the common consensus here was that he gave the place back and always should have. But I wonder why?
The argument was Lewis was ahead at the apex, but that was T1, and Max cut T2. And looking at this screenshot, Max looks to be ahead before T2 and before he avoided Lewis who was bouncing.
So why was this under investigation, and why did he need to give the place back?
Looking for references to the rules and context. My Dutch colleagues are still sour that Max gave the place back and “gave” Antonelli the win with this while my British colleagues are saying it’s just the rules. But neither can give me the actual rules and explanation
