Stafford players I don't believe stafford players are…

Stafford players

I don't believe stafford players are playing the same game that we are. I'm not sure they're fully human. Something happened about 2 years ago to make the stafford popular on lichess, something rotten, something insidious.

I used to seethe at the arrogance to bait me with such cheese, like I'm some cartoon mouse, but these days I simply exhale nasally and play 6. Qe2. They're drawn to it, like moth to flame, singularly motivated by my f pawn. Perplexed by an unnatural queen move, they take about 6 seconds, it's always 6 seconds in 3+2, and then they play 6... Ng4 like an insect flying into my windshield.

Maybe I'm training some sort of human-imitation chess neural net. I always wonder what compels them to play one of the more boring gambits after I blunt their advance with 7. Nd1 and crash through with my g pawn. Have they never done this before? Do they just like gambling?

Where did they come from? What happens to the chess players they replace? Is anyone else studying this?
