NASA astronauts returned safely to Earth on Tuesday after their nine-month stay in space.
SpaceX Crew-9 mission carrying NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore, Suni Williams, Nick Hague, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov landed in the water off the coast of Tallahassee, Florida on March 18, 2025.
Wilmore and Williams, both ex-Navy pilots, flew to the orbital lab in June last year, on what was supposed to be a days-long roundtrip to test out Boeing's Starliner on its first crewed flight.
But the spaceship developed propulsion problems and was deemed unfit to fly them back.
They were reassigned to NASA's SpaceX Crew-9 mission, which arrived at the ISS last September with a reduced crew of two to accommodate the pair, who had become widely referred to as the “stranded” astronauts. (Wire photos) | via Agence France-Presse, NASA
