Is Pokemon gen 1 the only time in the series a real life location has ever been referenced?
When the player explores the Pokemon Mansion in Cinnabar Island you can read the research journals about how Mew was discovered in Guyana, South America. To the best of my knowledge this is the only time a real world location has ever been referenced in the Pokemon world. I understand the Unova region is supposed to be a reference/inspired by New York and Alola region is Hawaii but as far as I remember they dont outright use the real world location names.
Also one of the journals in the mansion talk about Mew giving birth to Mewtwo. But I was under the impression based off other media like the 1st movie and the anime that Mewtwo was artificially created in a lab by scientists using leftover DNA from Mew. So which one is true then?
I'm also curious to know if the setting of Pokemon Green/Red takes place in 1996 or does the Pokemon World have its own made up year to track time?
