What genre are these thinkers? Tagore, Liang Qichao, al-Afghani
I absolutely loved Pankaj Mishra's book From the Ruins of Empire: The Revolt Against the West and the Remaking of Asia. It's mostly tracing the intellectual influence of these thinkers: Tagore, Gandhi, and later Nehru in India; Liang Qichao and Sun Yat-sen in China; Jamal al-Din al-Afghani and Abdurreshi al Ibrahim of the Ottoman Empire. I also like others like Jun'ichirō Tanizaki.
I' ve been trying to figure out what genre of thought/literature they would be. Post-colonial doesn't quite work, because they're really mostly...during the colonial era itself. Is there a word for this category of literature/thought?
