Why Is Ihovbor Experiencing Blackout? Let’s Talk About It…

Why Is Ihovbor Experiencing Blackout? Let’s Talk About It.
‎
‎I believe in speaking the truth based on facts, and I will keep this brief.
‎
‎When the Federal Government, through the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), established the power plant in Ihovbor, there was a clear and thoughtful plan for our community. As part of that plan, Ihovbor was provided with a dedicated substation equipped with two 2.5MVA transformers. These transformers stepped down electricity from the 33kV transmission line (supplied by TCN, which steps power down from 330kV) to 11kV for local distribution.
‎
‎For years, this system served Ihovbor and surrounding communities effectively. The 33kV supply from TCN has remained active, and before Azura came on board, we enjoyed stable electricity through our own step-down transformers.
‎
‎Let’s be honest — were we not enjoying better power supply before?
‎
‎Today, that same substation has been shut down. Reports indicate it was officially dismantled and vandalized under BEDC’s supervision. Instead of maintaining our functional local substation, we were connected to a distant substation, and now electricity is being rationed — a sharp contrast to the consistent supply we previously experienced.
‎
‎This raises serious questions.
‎
‎Why should a host community, where electricity is generated and transmitted from its own land, remain in darkness?
‎
‎This message is not about blame for its own sake. It is about accountability and solutions. The Federal Government, Edo State Government, Azura-Edo, and Benin Generation Company should not be comfortable seeing Ihovbor in darkness. The management of BEDC must be held responsible and engaged to restore our substation to full operation.
‎
‎All relevant stakeholders can collaborate to rehabilitate and reactivate our substation. This is not an unreasonable demand — it is about fairness, development, and respect for the host community.
‎
‎Darkness is not what our forefathers agreed to when these projects were brought to our land.
‎
‎People of Ihovbor, Ahor, Ute and the general public — what are your thoughts?
‎Let’s discuss constructively
