Is breaking down community endgame for mega corporations?
This is something I’ve been struggling through a lot since COVID and I know many of you will call me a conspiracy theorist but I really feel like breaking down the community structure is what corporations are aiming to do. I’ve been watching a lot of documentaries about what life was like during the Great Depression. Many people started banding together to make ends meet simply because the alternative was watching your neighbors die all around you. Some companies, like Pillsbury, started printing designs on their flour bags because families were using them to make clothes. Even got to the point they made their labels water soluble so it would wash out. They were still making money but there was a level of camaraderie that is unprecedented in today’s society. During COVID so many people were out of work and still had to find a way to pay bills and feed their families while prices started to soar. There has been a 30% inflation increase since 2020 that no politician will acknowledge. During COVID people were too afraid and divided to rely on each other and on this current administration, that is only getting worse.
I truly believe COVID has exacerbated this American rugged individualism. And at the perfect time to introduce AI to the general public. We don’t need experts or friends because there are AI chat bots that will validate our every step without holding us accountable. People are in these echo chambers where they aren’t ever challenged and it’s becoming lonely and toxic and dangerous. Our trust is eroding not only with our government but even within our own communities. With our own families. And I’m worried that advancing technology will get to a point where more and more people will stop interacting with one another at all. People will forget how to be human at all. Forget what it means to feel friction and be challenged. And all of this will benefit mega corporations because in our loneliness, we will solely look to material goods for comfort and convenience.
My hope is that collectively we become more mature people who live fully fledged lives with technology as our helpers and not our guides. And, it’s getting harder and harder to believe that will be the reality for most. #conversation source
