Folks in your late 20s: How did you get into coding?

I'll be honest, this is actually for a book I'm writing, but I'm also honestly curious about how things have changed since "my day".

I'm writing a geeky web developer character who was born in 1996. I'd like to be able to get the details right on how someone of that age would first get into coding. Since I'm 55 myself, the things I remember from my youth (BASIC, Apple \]\[s and C64s, the TRS-80...) are completely anachronistic. But also, I do wonder how younger developers got into it.

Was Minecraft a big entry avenue? I know there was a generation for whom Neopets was a big gateway, but I suspect those are older than my character... right?

If you were born in the mid '90s, what got you involved in coding? What were some of the things that let you realize you could make your own stuff on the web, not just look at other people's stuff?
