LPT: When you're waiting somewhere and start feeling…

LPT: When you're waiting somewhere and start feeling anxious or restless, find one small task you can actually complete right where you are.

This sounds almost too simple but it genuinely changed how I handle waiting rooms, long lines, delayed flights, that kind of thing.

Instead of scrolling or just sitting there getting more tense, I pick something tiny I can actually finish: clear out a folder on my phone, reply to one message I've been putting off, write down three things I need to do tomorrow, clean out my wallet, whatever. Something with a real end point.

The reason it works is that anxiety from waiting is usually your brain interpreting "nothing is happening" as a threat. Completing even a very small task gives your brain the signal that you are actually doing something, making progress, not just stuck. It doesn't need to be important. It just needs to be finishable.

I started doing this after a particularly bad experience waiting for test results at a clinic. I was spiraling and had nothing useful to do. I noticed my notes app had like 200 random entries going back years, so I just started deleting the obviously useless ones. By the time they called my name I'd deleted maybe 40 notes and felt significanly calmer than I had any right to be given the circumstances.

The task doesn't matter. The completion does.
