🤖 Tiangong Ultra, a humanoid robot developed by the Beijing Humanoid Robot Innovation Center, ran 100 metres in 8.86 seconds in a large-size semifinal at Beijing’s World Humanoid Robot Games on Tuesday.
The result improved on the robot’s 9.39-second opening-day mark. Its time was numerically faster than Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second men’s human world record, set in 2009.
The comparison is not an athletics-record claim: the race was part of a humanoid-robot competition, where sprinting is a test of robotic speed, balance and control. Associated Press reported that Tiangong Ultra fell after crossing the finish line and hit a padded barrier.
