Did east asians and southeast asians watch bollywood movies back in the day?
My mum used to tell me that in the late 80s, 90s and early 2000s people from all over the world would watch bollywood movies.
i grew up in australia and some of my nigerian and sudanese friends in high school would also tell me that they watched bollywood movies and would even know the lyrics to some songs.
one of my filipino friends told me he’s watched 3 idiots and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, etc.
then recently when i was about to travel to vietnam, one of my vietnamese coworkers told me “the older vietnamese people will love you because they used to watch bollywood movies”.
and a few days ago I saw a girl being interviewed in japan and she mentioned that she is half japanese, half indian and that her parents met in Osaka and that her japanese mum knew hindi through watching bollywood movies back in the day, etc.
apparently the watch people like myself watch korean dramas, people used to watch bollywood movies.
I rarely here anyone outside of india watching bollywood anymore, so I would love to know if anyone can confirm this or know of family that used to watch bollywood!
