SULU NOW PART OF ZAMBOANGA PENINSULA
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has formally ordered the transfer of Sulu from the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to Region IX or the Zamboanga Peninsula through Executive Order (EO) No. 91, signed on July 30, 2025.
The realignment follows a Supreme Court ruling reaffirming the results of the 2001 plebiscite, where Sulu residents voted against joining the now-defunct Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), the predecessor of BARMM.
Marcos said the transfer aims to ensure uninterrupted public services and the effective delivery of government functions in the province under its correct administrative region.
